ABOUT YOUR GUIDE

 

BD Markey is a National Park Service Ranger and Certified Wilderness First Responder. In 2017, he solo-kayaked the Mississippi River from Lake Itasca in Minnesota to New Orleans, La. The three-month camping trip ended on Bayou St. John just three blocks from his house. A passion for getting people on the water led BD to co-found the annual Bayou Boogaloo canoe race in New Orleans.

 

Prior to launching GuidedCanoeTours.Com BD worked professionally as an Urban Planner. Major life changes gave him the opportunity to become a white water raft guide. It was during this transition that he hand built his own wooden kayak. He has not looked back since.
